Riding Lessons at Good Pickin’

Good Pickin’ Farm offers Beginner, Advanced Beginner, and Intermediate horseback riding lessons given by Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructors. Students will learn about horsemanship, grooming and tacking, and, of course riding.

We share our love of horses, our love of learning and the excitement of being on horseback to students of all ages and levels.  We are not a show barn or a competitive barn.  Our approach is to meet our students where they are - we are all about having fun, and guiding our students to develop confidence, responsibility and foster a love of horses.

Horsemanship (Unmounted) Lessons

Riding is merely one aspect of the equestrian journey! We also provide horsemanship lessons, where students explore horse care, handling, and groundwork. Gaining insights into horse behavior and developing a partnership with your horse serves as a fantastic introduction to the equine world. Riding can sometimes induce anxiety; however, understanding your horse from the ground up fosters self-confidence and mindfulness. Once riders have mastered these foundational skills, the next step is to transition to mounted lessons.

Getting Started: Evaluations & Placement

Before enrolling in one of our programs, every new student begins with a 30-minute evaluation lesson.

This process allows us to:
✔️ Evaluate the student’s riding level
✔️ Assign them to the appropriate group
✔️ Ensure your child feels comfortable and enthusiastic about riding!

Please complete the inquiry form at the top of the page to get started.

Helmet Policy & Safety

Safety first! All riders must have their own properly fitted riding helmet. If you’re just starting out, we’re happy to provide a loaner helmet until you get your own. This is a required safety policy for all students.

What People Are Saying

Good Pickin’ Farm is an amazing place! I first started out going there for a summer camp and loved the environment. I started taking lessons and next thing I knew I was also volunteering with barn chores. I also lease a horse there. Everyone at Good Pickin’ Farm is wonderful, they are all so kind and helpful. The horses are amazing and well behaved and very well taken care of. If you are thinking of going to Good Pickin’ Farm you will love it .

“I love that I get to spend time with the horses! Cara is such a good instructor - she does a lot of fun things with us and she’s really nice. I love the ponies at the barn - Greda is my favorite, but I ride Simba for my lessons.
