Farm Maintenance
Job Description
Good Pickin’ Farm in is hiring a Grounds Keeper to support the appearance, safety, and overall upkeep of the farm in Westford, Massachusetts. In this hands-on landscaping and grounds maintenance role, you will perform mowing, trimming, weed whacking, fence repairs, exterior painting and seasonal property maintenance across the farm. You will operate groundskeeping equipment and help ensure the farm remains clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, animals, and visitors. During winter months, this position plays a critical role in snow and ice removal operations. This position works a regular ~20 hours a week with flexibility required during weather-related and special farm events. If you have groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, or outdoor maintenance experience and enjoy working outdoors year-round, we encourage you to apply.
Job Responsibilities
Participate in the execution of routine maintenance schedules for grounds.
Perform mowing, trimming, weed whacking, and trail and general landscape maintenance throughout grounds.
Perform fencing and basic property repairs and exterior painting to maintain the safety and appearance of the grounds.
Complete seasonal groundskeeping tasks such as leaf removal, mulching, and debris cleanup.
Comfortable using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, or saws to complete assignments.
Operate power equipment and other vehicles such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, leaf blowers or other similar machines.
Trim trees and vegetation.
Install and maintain specialty features such as rock gardens, retaining walls, decks, or playground equipment.
Deliver and spread gravel, sand, graded base, and/or topsoil.
Collect and discard litter or other waste materials, as needed.
Assist in the set up and clean up for various farm events.
Participate in snow removal and ice management operations during winter, as needed.
Inspect, clean, and perform basic maintenance on grounds equipment to ensure safe operation.
Identify and report equipment issues, safety concerns, or property maintenance needs.
Support a positive farm experience by maintaining high standards of appearance across the property.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
1-3 years of groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, or outdoor property maintenance experience.
Experience operating groundskeeping and landscaping equipment.
Flexibility to assist with snow removal and weather-related or operational needs outside of regular hours when required.
Physical demands
Must be able to lift and/or move, without assistance 10 pounds at a time regularly, 50 pounds frequently, and 100+ pounds occasionally.
Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, walk, and stand for extended periods.
Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather (rain, snow, sleet, freezing temperatures, etc.).
Preferred
Experience maintaining or performing minor repairs on grounds equipment.
Knowledge of seasonal landscape maintenance and snow management operations.
Competencies

Weekend Farm Staff
Good Pickin’ Farm is looking for friendly, reliable, and hardworking Weekend Farm Staff to help with animal care, birthday parties, private farm experiences, and special events.
This is a varied, hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with both animals and people. One part of your shift might be feeding goats and cleaning animal areas, while another might be helping children meet the animals at a birthday party or welcoming families to a busy farm event.
Responsibilities Include:
Feeding, watering, and providing daily care for a variety of farm animals
Cleaning animal areas, pens, paddocks, stalls, and enclosures
Refilling hay, water, bedding, and other animal supplies
Assisting with general farm chores and keeping public areas clean and organized
Monitoring animals and reporting any health, safety, or behavioral concerns
Setting up and cleaning up for birthday parties, private experiences, and farm events
Assisting with and/or leading private farm tours and animal experiences
Helping guests safely interact with farm animals
Assisting with birthday party activities and keeping groups moving through scheduled experiences
Welcoming guests, answering basic questions, and providing friendly customer service
Helping with check-in, directions, activities, and general operations during larger farm events
Assisting with event setup and breakdown
Jumping in wherever needed to help keep weekend farm operations running smoothly
Qualifications:
Comfortable working around a variety of farm animals
Friendly and confident interacting with children, families, and the general public
Reliable and punctual
Able to work independently as well as part of a team
Comfortable speaking to and leading small groups
Willing to learn about our animals, farm, and programs so you can share that information with guests
Able to follow established animal-care and safety procedures
Good judgment and attention to both animal and guest safety
Previous farm, animal care, camp, education, hospitality, or customer-service experience is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Comfortable performing physical farm chores, including cleaning animal areas
Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Able to push wheelbarrows, carry supplies, bend, lift, and be on your feet for extended periods
Comfortable working on uneven, muddy, or snowy terrain
Able and willing to work outdoors in varying New England weather conditions
Weekend Availability
This position requires regular weekend availability, including Saturdays and/or Sundays. Hours may vary depending on the season and our event schedule, with some weekends busier than others.
Availability for occasional holidays or special events is a plus.
What We're Looking For
The best fit for this position is someone who is equally willing to clean a goat pen, help a nervous child pet a bunny, lead a family around the farm, set up tables for a birthday party, or jump into a busy event wherever an extra set of hands is needed.
Farm work isn't always glamorous, and weekend events can get busy, so we're looking for someone who is flexible, takes initiative, and genuinely enjoys working with animals and people.

Equine and Livestock Care Specialist
Job Description
Good Pickin’ Farm in is hiring an Equine and Livestock Care Specialist to support the care and health of all animals at Good Pickin’ Farm. In this hands-on animal care role, you will perform feeding, watering, and basic care to the farm’s equines and other livestock as well as routine cleaning of animals pens and shelters. The ideal candidate will also be able to interact with farm visitors, providing structured, hands on animals experiences to the public, such as tours and interactive animal visit experiences. This role is critical in helping to ensure the farm remains healthy for animals and clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors. This position works a regular 15 – 30 hours a week and does include one weekend day each week. For the right candidate, we offer an opportunity to grow through ongoing, hands on and supported learning in the safe handling of equines and livestock, including illness and injury care and gaining experience working with pony rides and pony grooming experiences for farm visitors as well as assisting with riding lessons while working towards getting a Massachusetts State Riding Instructor’s License.
These positions can be separate or combined, depending on the background and interest of the applicant.

Equine knowledge sufficient to independently lead, groom, and tack horses.
Ability to or interest in learning to assist with horseback riding lessons, pony rides, and horse grooming with visitors.
Job Responsibilities – Livestock Care Specialist
1 to 3 years experience working around livestock.
Perform feeding and watering of livestock on the farm.
Identify and report animal health and welfare issues, safety concerns, or property maintenance needs.
Perform cleaning of a variety of animal enclosures, pens, paddocks, and shelters.
Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of barns and animal enclosures, including light fencing and shelter repairs as needed.
Follow all safety procedures while working around equipment, pedestrians, animals, and traffic.
Support a positive farm experience by maintaining high standards of appearance across the property.
Preferred
Interest in and ability to work with the public and animals including giving tours of the farm and leading animal visits for groups.
The ability to interact effectively with small and large group and all ages around animal safety and education.
Physical demands
Remain standing and walking for the duration of a work shift.
Must be able to lift and/or move, without assistance 10 pounds at a time regularly, 50 pounds frequently.
